Robert John Hope è un cantante e cantautore con sede a Berlino il cui album di debutto da solista "Plasticine Heart" è uscito il 23 aprile 2021.
Originario della contea di Mayo, la terza più grande d'Irlanda, Rob è ben noto sulla scena musicale irlandese come front-man della band indie Senakah, un gruppo che si è formato a Limerick nel 2005, e che ha avuto due album di successo "Sweeter than Bourbon" e "Human Relations" prima che la band si separasse.
In questo nuovo episodio dell'etichetta The Family of Things, Rob, che aveva in precedenza lavorato con Athena Media come documentarista, condivide con Helen la sua decisione di fare di Berlino la sua residenza sette anni fa.
Rob ha solo adesso ritrovato la sua voce e il suo mojo musicale, dopo un periodo buio in cui pensava che non avrebbe mai più cantato. Nelle sue interviste Rob parla di una condizione medica, una malattia, che aveva colpito la sua voce. Si chiama malattia respiratoria esacerbata dall'aspirina (AERD), nota anche come triade di Samter.
Ricordo di essermi seduto in macchina con mio padre, quando ero a fargli visita a Dublino, e ad un certo punto non credo di essermi mai sentito più depresso in vita mia perché letteralmente la mia voce era completamente andata. Riuscivo a malapena a parlare.
Stavo pensando, posso suonare di nuovo la musica, ma non sarò mai più in grado di cantare, che è probabilmente una delle cose migliori che riesco a fare. E quindi è stato un momento davvero scioccante e deprimente.
Il suo album di debutto da solista 'Plasticine Heart' è uscito il 23 aprile scorso ed è stato registrato a Berlino e presenta i vecchi colleghi di Rob di Senakah, il bassista Yvonne Conaty e il batterista Daragh O'Loughlin.
